The Lagoon has channels of differing depths and this leads to the different shades of turquoise colouring. Some days it really looks as though the lagoon has turned itself into a Turquoise Peacock posing for a photograph. Thus Langebaan is aptly known as the “Turquoise Jewel” of the West Coast. Although Langebaan is considered as a coastal resort, it is in fact not on the sea, but on the shores of the beautiful Langebaan Lagoon. It truly is a delight to see. Langebaan village itself is situated in the heart of the West Coast Region. It is a popular destination all year round for visitors. It is well known as a water sports paradise. It is considered that the sailing conditions are among the best in the Western Cape with safe moorings for yachts in town, Kraalbaai, Oupos and Perlemoen Point.
