Langebaan is a town in the Western Cape Province of South Africa on the Eastern shore of Langebaan Lagoon. Langebaan is situated 124km north of Cape Town, just off the R27, about 28 km from Vredenburg and 20km from Saldanha Bay. The Lagoon stretches for 17km from Saldanha Bay, past Langebaan to Geelbek in the South, and in places is up to 4km wide. The Lagoon has channels of differing depths and this leads to the different shades of turquoise colouring. Some days it really looks as though the lagoon has turned itself into a Turquoise Peacock posing for a photograph. Thus Langebaan is aptly known as the “Turquoise Jewel” of the West Coast.
Although Langebaan is considered as a coastal resort, it is in fact not on the sea, but on the shores of the beautiful Langebaan Lagoon. It truly is a delight to see.
Langebaan village itself is situated in the heart of the West Coast Region. It is a popular destination all year round for visitors. It is well known as a water sports paradise.
It is considered that the sailing conditions are among the best in the Western Cape with safe moorings for yachts in town, Kraalbaai, Oupos and Perlemoen Point.
